The National Museum of Montenegro celebrated May 18 – International Museum Day with the exhibition “New Museum Buildings in the Federal Republic of Germany” which opened in Njegoševa Billiard and educational workshops for students “What kind of museum young people want” and “My experience”.
The exhibition, organized by the National Museum of Montenegro in cooperation with the Goethe Institute, was opened by the curator and head of the History Museum, Filip Kuzman.
– The exhibition, which on its journey was in Brazil (Belo Horizonte) and Indonesia (Bandung), found itself at the end of the nineties in Cetinje, in the National Museum of Montenegro, however, due to the events of the war and the specific political situation, it was never organized, while the material remained in the museum premises. After decades of delay, it was finally shown in Njegoš’s Billiards – said Kuzman and added that the exhibition belongs to the German Museum of Architecture from Frankfurt. It consists of 31 artistic photographs and four models of museum buildings and is based on the book “New Museum Buildings in the Federal Republic of Germany” by Heindrich Klotz and Valtruad Krase. The 12 most representative museums of that era are shown through photographs and models, and according to him, the most attractive part of the exhibition are four models that show the German Museum of Architecture, the New State Gallery, the Abteiberg City Museum and the building of the Art Collection of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The exhibition will be open until June 18.
In addition to the “New Museum Buildings in the Federal Republic of Germany” exhibition, the National Museum organized Museum Night on Saturday, May 13, during which the museum was open for free in the evening.
International Museum Day – May 18 has been celebrated since 1977 under the auspices of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), with the aim of affirming museums and highlighting their role in promoting cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.
