The historical museum is located in the Government House building. From the oldest recorded remains of human activity to modern times, the permanent exhibition of the History Museum takes visitors through the history of this area in a timeline. Set up for the first time in 1989, the exhibition was modernized in 2011, when museum objects from the period before the Austro-Hungarian occupation of Montenegro in 1916 were exhibited. The exhibition space dedicated to the period from the First World War to 2007, completed with the adoption of the Constitution of the internationally recognized independent state, was opened on May 21, 2016, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the restoration of independence of Montenegro.
Currently, the concept of the thematic and exhibition plan of the new permanent exhibition of the History Museum is being prepared.
