It is a great honor and pleasure for us that last night in the National Carpet Museum of Azerbaijan in Baku, an exhibition of folk costumes of Montenegro from the funds of the Ethnographic Museum called “Beauty of diversity” was opened. The exhibition presented 17 sets of everyday and ceremonial men’s and women’s costumes from the territory of Montenegro, individual clothing elements that were combined with traditional clothing, as well as jewelry and weapons as an indispensable decoration that complemented and enriched each costume.

The director of the National Museum of Montenegro, Jakša Ćalasan, thanked the hosts for their hospitality and the chance to show part of the Montenegrin cultural heritage in Baku and highlight the multiculturalism and multinationality of Montenegro. He emphasized that only part of the rich heritage that reflects the diversity of our culture is shown.

Opening the exhibition, the director of the Historical Museum of Montenegro, the historian Filip Kuzman, said that on the territory of Montenegro, many different costumes are encountered, the unique aesthetic expression of which, expressed through specific forms, colors, ornamentation, decorations and details, appears as a reflection of cultural, national and religious peculiarities of the peoples and ethnic communities living in this area.
Promoting cultural values, with all the peculiarities, but also similarities that we find in other peoples and cultures, is certainly the best and most beautiful way of communication between people, and mutual respect for tradition is a prerequisite for opening up to each other – concluded Kuzman.

The curator of the exhibition is ethnologist Tatjana Rajković.

The result of the cooperation between the two national museums will be the exhibition of the National Carpet Museum of Azerbaijan, which will be organized in Cetinje in July. The Montenegrin national airline “Air Montenegro” also provided assistance in organizing the exhibition in Baku.
