The first gathering of museum educators in Montenegro, entitled “Museum as a Place of Dialogue,” was held today at Njegoš’s Museum – Biljarda, marking two significant anniversaries: the 130th anniversary of the founding of the National Museum of Montenegro and the 100th anniversary of the restoration of its work.

The event brought together museum professionals, educators, and representatives of cultural institutions from across Montenegro, providing a platform for the exchange of experiences, the presentation of best practices, and the establishment of new professional connections.

On behalf of the organizers, the Director of the National Museum of Montenegro, Jakša Ćalasan, thanked all participants whose knowledge, experience, and support contributed to the successful realization of the event.

“The organization of the first gathering of museum educators represents an important step in strengthening museum activities in Montenegro and confirms the commitment of cultural institutions to enhancing cooperation, professional development, and joint action in the field of cultural heritage protection and promotion,” said Ćalasan.

The theme of the conference highlighted the importance of dialogue as one of the key principles of contemporary museum practice. Through presentations, discussions, and the exchange of experiences, participants addressed the role of museums in developing educational programmes, cooperating with local communities, applying innovative approaches to audience engagement, and creating inclusive spaces open to diverse social groups.

Particular attention was given to the role of museums in fostering understanding, lifelong learning, and the active participation of citizens in the preservation and interpretation of cultural heritage. It was concluded that museums today carry an important social responsibility to serve as places of encounter, dialogue, and the exchange of different perspectives.
