On the occasion of Statehood Day – July 13, the Montenegrin Gallery of Arts “Miodrag Dado Đurić” in Cetinje is hosting an exhibition of Montenegrin fine arts, presenting a selected segment from the collections of the Art Museum of the National Museum of Montenegro.
Conceived as a “mini permanent exhibition,” this display seeks to provide the public with access to significant works of Montenegrin art, especially in the context of limited accessibility to the museum’s permanent exhibition.
In addition to its functional role, the exhibition continues the programmatic concept of the display at the Government House, which features the collections of Yugoslav fine arts, the Milica Sarić Vukmanović collection, and the icon collection. In this way, it contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the artistic heritage preserved and presented by the institution.
The exhibition follows the development of Montenegrin fine arts from academic painting at the end of the 19th century, through modernist and contemporary tendencies, to experimental and alternative expressions. The display is structured into two chronological units: the first includes works created from the late 19th century to the 1980s, while the second presents works from the 1980s to the first decade of the 21st century.
The exhibition will remain open to visitors until September 2025.
