StećakLand, an innovative project within the Creative Europe program, which revives the world of stećak symbols through VR and AR technologies, will be presented in Cetinje on Friday, September 19, at 6 p.m., at the Montenegrin Gallery of Art “Miodrag Dado Đurić.”
The public will be introduced to VR and AR applications – a unique experience merging cultural heritage with the latest technologies – allowing interaction with the most representative stećci, whose symbols are “brought to life” in a digital environment.
Through the VR application, users will have the opportunity to walk through StećakLand, explore the stories of stonemasons, Queen Katarina, the Hunter, the Deer, and other figures, and discover the meanings of numerous symbols. The application also offers the possibility to design a personal stećak inside the Temple. This application will be installed in the National Museum of Montenegro.
The AR application, available on mobile devices, provides a fascinating way for selected ornaments from stećci to “come alive” in necropolises across the Balkans, including the park in Pljevlja (Montenegro), Radimlja (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Brotnice (Croatia), and Mramorje (Serbia). The app will be available on the Play Store and App Store.
StećakLand is the result of collaboration between the Association for the Digitization of Cultural Heritage DIGI.BA, NoHo Productions (Ireland), Chamber Theatre 55 (Sarajevo), the Archaeological Institute Belgrade, the National Museum of Montenegro, and the Mak Dizdar Foundation.
Theatre play StećakLand, performed by Chamber Theatre 55 from Sarajevo (a project partner), will be staged the same day at 8 p.m. at the Royal Theatre Zetski dom in Cetinje.
