The exhibition of the National Museum of Montenegro “The Beauty of Diversity” was presented yesterday in Istanbul, as part of the event “Days of Montenegro”, organized by the Consulate General of Montenegro in Istanbul.
Curated by Tatjana Rajković, the exhibition was opened at the Sakıp Sabancı Museum in Emirgan, the former site of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Montenegro.
On display are sets of everyday and ceremonial men’s and women’s costumes from different regions of Montenegro, as well as individual clothing items traditionally combined with folk attire, along with jewelry and weapons that enriched and completed every costume. In addition to showcasing the diversity of ethnic and religious groups represented by these garments, the exhibition also highlights the variety of materials used. A special section is dedicated to the former Montenegrin Embassy in Istanbul, located at the Emirgan Palace, and to the relations between King Nikola and Sultan Abdul Hamid II.
The opening ceremony was attended by the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, along with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkey and Montenegro, Hakan Fidan and Ervin Ibrahimović. The exhibition was also supported by Montenegro’s national airline, Air Montenegro.
