With deep respect and sorrow, we bid farewell to the distinguished Montenegrin sculptor Krsto Andrijašević (Balosave, Nikšić, 11 September 1948 – 2025), whose creative work holds a special place in contemporary Montenegrin art.
He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Department of Painting, in the class of Professor J. Kratohvil. Throughout his career, he was engaged in pedagogical work in Nikšić and was a member of the informal art group “Generation 9.” He also studied in Paris, which left a significant mark on his artistic expression.
His oeuvre is characterized by lyrical delicacy, poetic sensitivity, and closeness to the sculptural language of Risto Stijović. His sculptures and drawings reveal simplicity, archaism, and the warmth of a childlike expression, enriched with symbols and metaphors. He most often worked in wood, shaping figures imbued with spiritual purity and the joy of life, while his drawings explored portraits and erotic themes, marked by vitalistic lines and strong color contrasts.
Andrijašević held solo exhibitions in Podgorica, Nikšić, Danilovgrad, Tivat, Pljevlja, and Cetinje, as well as in Bari, Paris, and Novi Sad, while also representing Montenegro at numerous group exhibitions across the region and Europe.
For his artistic achievements, he received numerous awards: the Risto Stijović Award for Sculpture, the Milo Milunović Award for Drawing, and the July 13th Award (2018) – Montenegro’s highest state recognition. He was the artist with the greatest number of awards granted by ULUCG and, since 2018, held the status of Distinguished Cultural Creator of Montenegro.
The passing of Krsto Andrijašević is a great loss for Montenegrin culture and art. His body of work remains a lasting testimony to the power of simplicity, sincerity, and poetic purity in artistic creation, enriching both Montenegrin and European art scenes.
🕊️ His works will continue to live on, reminding us of the magical world where love, joy, and spiritual purity were the guiding values.
